The Coton
Variously referred to as the ‘Royal Dog of Madagascar’, where it originates from and the anti-stress dog, this delightful, fun loving small dog is very people minded and revels in being close to its owners.
It is usually white but many have apricot or grey colour. For show dogs, there are limits on the amount and location of colour but for pets, it is their exuberant personality that is their main attraction. They hardly shed hair and so are popular with people who have allergies.
Their cotton like coat needs to be groomed regularly to keep it free of tangles. One advantage of the coat having virtually no oil in it means that when they get mud all over their feet and legs while digging in the garden – yes they do dig, like a terrier – the best approach is to have courage, wait for the mud to dry then virtually all of it will just fall off and the rest can be easily brushed out!
